Commodore A K M Faruque Hassan, (N), afwc, psc, BN joined Bangladesh Navy on 17 Jul 1983. Having done his Basic Naval Training in Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) in UK, he was commission in Bangladesh Navy in Executive Branch on 01 Jan 86 as Best All Round Officer. Thereafter, he has also done his post-commission professional training in UK in 1986 in various British training ships and establishment.
Commodore Faruque did his Specialisation in Navigation from India in 1993 securing the 1st position. He has graduated from Defence Services Command and Staff College, Dhaka in 1999 and US War College in 2000 with Distinction. The officer has undertaken full course Master in Business Administration in Digital Technology Management and Human Resources Management in 2004 and 2010 respectively. He is a graduate of Armed Forces War Course 2008 from National Defence College Dhaka followed by the Faculty Member until 2010. Commodore Faruque obtained Master in Defence Studies and Master in War Studies from National University and Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) respectively.
Commodore Faruque was the Sergeant at Arms in Bangladesh National Parliament from 2010 to 2012. Thereafter, he was the Project Director to build 2 Corvette warships from China for Bangladesh Navy from 2012 till 2015 where he acquired comprehensive knowledge on ship design, construction, test/trial and shipyard management.
Commodore Faruque has in his credit very comprehensive training experiences. He was the instructor in Naval Academy for 3 years, Training Officer for Sea Training onboard Ship, OIC of Professional School, undertaking and conducting Operational Sea Training, conducting simulator based training; Staff Officer Training and DD Training in Naval Headquarters. He was the Executive Officer followed by the Commanding Officer of the Training Ship, BNS UMAR FAROOQ. The officer has the experience in planning and conducting a Multinational Maritime Exercises and UN Mission.
Commodore Faruque has long sea experiences and served in different ships and establishments in various operation and training related capacities. He has commanded Patrol Craft (PC), Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) and Frigate (FF). He has also served as Staff Officer to Area Commander and Naval Headquarters. The officer was appointed as the Drafting Authority at Naval Headquarters to look after the administration of the sailors of Bangladesh Navy before joining as the Chairman of Mongla Port Authority from 07 December 2016. He acquired significant experiences in port planning, development, policy and intermodal logistics operation for effective administration of a modern port through various workshops and visits in the recent past.
The officer visited many of the countries around the world for training or other official purposes. Commodore Faruque is married to Mrs Rafeza Khanom (Shewly) and blessed with a son and a daughter. He plays golf, likes to explore new ideas and indigenous approaches to the problems. He loves to work for the people and for the country.
