Development Plan of Mongla Port

 

Mongla Port provides service to international shipping lines and other concerned agencies. For the development of shore based facilities like jetties, sheds, cargo handling equipment and maintaining adequate water depth in the channel and 32nos. development projects have been implemented. For further development of port facilities the following projects have been undertaken.

Procurement of container and cargo handling equipment to ensure fast and reliable service to port users improving cargo handling efficiency of Mongla Port.

1no. 100 ton capacity Tire Mounted Mobile Crane, 1no. 50 ton capacity Mobile Crane, 1no. Heavy Duty forklift Truck, 2 nos. Reach Stacker, 2nos. Forklift with Side Shifter, 4nos. Forklift, 6nos. Low Mast Forklift Truck, 3nos. Straddle Carrier will be procured. Meanwhile, 5nos. equipment have already been procured.

 

B) Future Project

Construction of 2 (two) incomplete jetties of MPA

About 1.00 lac TEUs container will be handled per year through the jetties of MPA.

2 (two) incomplete jetties of MPA at Mongla port will be constructed with modern equipmentunder PPP.

Dredging at the Outer Bar in the Pussur Channel

Increase navigability at the Outer bar area of the Pussur Channel to facilitate easy entrance and maneuvering of more than 9 metre draft ships in the anchorage area of Mongla Port.

4. Expansion and Modernization of Port Facility for Mongla Port

 

 

4.1 Construction of  Container terminal

After construction of Container Terminal, Container Delivery Yard, and Container yard, about 5.00 lac TEUs container will be handled per year through Mongla Port.

4.6 Expansion of Existing Main and Bypass Road up to Four lane

After completion of Padma Bridge and establishment of Khulna-Mongla railway link, the exports and imports of Mongla port will be increased tremendously.  Moreover, export and import goods from Special Economic Zone and EPZ at Mongla and other private industries will be transported easily.  For meeting up these demands existing main and bypass road is needed to be expanded up to four lane.

Existing main and bypass road will be expanded up to four lanes.

4.7 Protection of Sliding of Accumulated Soil underneath the Jetty of Mongla Port

Protect sliding of accumulated soil underneath the jetty; reduce siltation rate in the jetty front area of the channel and maintain adequate draft at jetty front.

Sheet piling works will be constructed in the front of the jetty no. 5 to 9.

4.8 Installation of Mobile Container Scanner

Planning Cell

Planning Cell is accountable for overall planning, preparing and programming different Annual Development Programme for Mongla Port in accordance with the guidelines of the government and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and objectives of the Perspective Plan, Five Year Plan, Three Years, and Rolling Plan of the government. Planning cell is acting under direct control of the Chairman of MPA consisting of technical and economic evaluation section. Chief Planning is executing chief of this cell. This department keeps close contract with Ministry of Shipping, Planning Commission and Economic Relation Division and with other concerned Ministries and organizations.

  • Formulation and revision of the schemes following the guidelines of the National Plan given by the planning commission and carrying out feasibility studies of the project.
  • Overall planning programming and preparation of Annual Development Programme for submission to the Government.        
  • Evaluation and monitoring of implementation of different schemes and maintenance of contract correspondence with Ministry through reports and returns of the development activities.
  • To be responsible for appraisal, evaluation, scrutiny and processing of the development schemes and maintain liaison with the Ministry and Planning commission with regard to the approval of the scheme.
  • Undertake economic and technical feasibility studies of the development projects, preparation of schemes and project Proforma and evaluation.
  • Preparation of Annual Development Programme, Foreign Exchange Budget and Five years plan and perspective plan for the Mongla Port Authority.
  • Co-ordination and liaison with other department of Mongla port Authority in connection with the development activities maintenance of data thereof.
  • Preparation and analysis of material/write up for Bangladesh Economic Survey, Bangladesh Transport Survey.
  • Reply to all queries of inspection items from the Ministry, IMED, Planning Commission related to all Development Projects.
  • Preparation of monthly, Quarterly, annual progress report of development projects for the Ministry of Shipping, Ports, and IWT division and any other report ( related to statistics) by the Ministry.
  • Preparation of reports related to review meeting in the Ministry and matters related to ECNEC meeting.
  • Collection, Compilation and analysis of data required by other organizations like Planning Commission, External Resource Division, Bureau of Statistics, World Bank etc.
  • Works related to transport survey carried out by survey section of the planning Commission.
  • Project analysis, review appraisal and economic viability of the project.
  • Preparation of non development revenue Budget of the planning cell.
  • Certain works relating to preparation of the Year Book of Information.
  • Any other duty assigned by the authority from time to time.
